Gem pricing: recruiting plans and startup costs
A startup rate answers only the first question. Match the company-size band and ATS scope, then budget the full commitment after the introductory offer ends.

The short version
Gem prices its main in-house packages by company FTE and publishes five startup bands. Separate a monthly selection from the full annual commitment. Confirm the included seats, retained ATS costs and the first paid invoice before using an introductory offer in your budget.
What will your offer actually commit you to?
Match the package
Confirm the FTE band, included users and the ATS you keep or replace.
Trace the invoices
Record the free period, first paid term and the complete renewal commitment.
Test the work
Compare the package with a real role and the operating effort your team retains.
The worked payment calendar is hypothetical. A crossed-out price does not establish your renewal rate or eligibility.
Metix AI sells recruiting software and publishes this guide. Official pages checked October 16, 2026. Calculations support your budget; they are not comparative product tests or hiring-outcome claims.
What does Gem recruiting cost?
Gem pricing depends on company size and the product you buy. Its main in-house packages require a quote based on full-time employee count. The Startup Program has an interactive price display: for 1-10 FTE, it currently shows $300 on Monthly or $130 per month on Yearly. The latter is an annual billing reference, not a $130 month-to-month subscription.
This guide covers Gem recruiting software for in-house hiring teams. Start with whether you need an applicant tracking system (ATS), a sourcing/CRM layer on an ATS you already own, or help carrying a role through outreach and booking. Those purchases have different budgets.
We selected every company-size option under both billing modes on Gem's official pricing page on October 16, 2026. Here are the displayed USD amounts.

| Company size | Monthly selection | Yearly selection, per month | 12 × yearly rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-10 FTE | $300 | $130 | $1,560 |
| 11-30 FTE | $400 | $180 | $2,160 |
| 31-50 FTE | $500 | $225 | $2,700 |
| 51-75 FTE | $700 | $315 | $3,780 |
| 76-100 FTE | $900 | $405 | $4,860 |
Download the Gem rate table (CSV). These are in-house company-size selections, not prices per recruiter. Companies above 100 FTE need a quote; staffing buyers should use Gem's recruiting-firms route rather than treat the startup widget as an agency offer. The last column multiplies the displayed yearly rate by 12; it does not establish your eligibility, invoice date, free-period treatment or renewal amount.
The Yearly selector says 10% off and also displays crossed-out references of $270, $360, $450, $630 and $810 respectively. The page separately promotes six months free followed by 50% off for companies under 30 employees. Do not apply either discount again to the displayed $130-$405. Get the applied offer, its duration and the first paid invoice in writing.
Two details need confirmation at the boundary. The free-offer wording says under 30 employees, while one calculator band includes 30. Also, the 31-100 FTE cards lead to sales even though the nearby copy says no sales call is required. Confirm your company's eligibility and purchase route rather than treating the widget as an approved order.
Gem ATS pricing starts with the system you want to keep
Gem + Your ATS adds sourcing and CRM capabilities to an existing system. Gem All-in-One includes Gem's own ATS. The practical difference is the bill you continue paying and the records you have to move. Compare Gem's two package panels.
Swipe horizontally to see all columns.
| Buying path | Budget to retain | Confirm before signing |
|---|---|---|
| Gem + Your ATS | Your existing ATS subscription | Required connector, sourcing/CRM, scheduling, analytics and fraud-detection scope |
| Gem All-in-One | Existing ATS until its contract actually ends | ATS migration, data import, implementation, overlap and team access |
| Startup Program | Any tools you will still use | Company eligibility, included users and AI entitlements, paid-term start and later rate |
Gem distinguishes Standard seats from AI-Powered seats. Its current materials describe AI sourcing, talent rediscovery and application review, so it would be inaccurate to treat Gem as a manual-only CRM. Ask which users receive which capabilities and whether your quote changes with that mix. The public page does not give a universal price per AI seat.
The keep-your-ATS panel lists scheduling, fraud detection and analytics as additions. A lower detail panel uses broader wording about scheduling on all plans. Ask the order to specify those entitlements; the page alone does not resolve which capabilities your package includes.
The startup product page also describes hiring-manager access without an extra license charge. A hiring manager viewing the pipeline is not automatically an additional sourcing operator. Have the quote name both forms of access. If replacing an ATS is the main task, use our ATS pricing comparison rather than comparing only sourcing subscriptions.
Compare the paid commitment before taking an offer
For the same package, compare the actual monthly quote with the full 12-month quote. For example, the 1-10 FTE Yearly display of $130 per month corresponds to $1,560 for 12 paid months, subject to your confirmed offer. Enter $1,560 as the full annual amount, rather than $130. Keep any free period and the post-offer invoice calendar separate.
Calculate your Gem paid commitment
Use the same currency, package and tax basis for both quotes. Model 1-12 paid months after any confirmed free period, assuming the annual bill is paid upfront. Add retained tools, agreed extras and team time in the worksheet below.
Monthly plan = monthly quote × paid months × paid licenses. Annual commitment = full annual quote × paid licenses. For Gem's company-level quote, use one company rather than multiplying by recruiters.
Keep the full quote and renewal questions in the CSV worksheet. The calculator compares license commitments only; it does not predict a renewal rate or remove an existing ATS contract.
Budget beyond the free period
Before accepting a free period, ask what the first paid invoice will commit you to. A price displayed per month can still lead to a full annual bill when the offer ends.
Use an explicit payment calendar. In this hypothetical example, a buyer receives six free months, then buys a 12-month term starting in month 7 at a $200 monthly equivalent. Assume the whole $2,400 is due in month 7. The next annual term begins in month 19 at an assumed $400 monthly equivalent, with $4,800 due then. These are invented planning inputs, not Gem prices or a forecast of its renewal increase.
By month 12, the buyer has paid $2,400, even though only six paid service months have elapsed. By month 24, the two invoices total $7,200 and cover service through month 30. Multiplying six paid months by $200 would have produced a $1,200 first-year budget and missed half the first invoice.
Swipe horizontally to see all columns.
| Point in the example | Cash paid so far | What that payment covers |
|---|---|---|
| Month 7 | $2,400 | First 12 paid months, service months 7-18 |
| Month 12 | $2,400 | Six paid months used; six prepaid months remain |
| Month 19 | $7,200 | Renewal invoice adds $4,800 for months 19-30 |
| Month 24 | $7,200 | Includes six prepaid months beyond this budget window |
The service used by month 24 has a planning value of 12 × $200 + 6 × $400 = $4,800. The remaining $2,400 covers months 25-30. That is why a cash budget and a budget for the service period can differ. If the actual offer bills monthly or renews at another date, rebuild the calendar rather than borrowing this total.
Download the quote and offer-expiry worksheet (CSV). Replace every example with your actual offer. Leave missing implementation, extra-seat and renewal prices blank until confirmed. Add retained software and the time your team spends operating the system.
For headcount growth, write down your FTE count now and at the expected renewal date. Ask when a move into a larger band changes the bill, whether that change is prorated, and what happens to the offer. Neither a crossed-out reference price nor a competitor's average contract value answers those questions.
Is Gem worth the cost for your hiring workflow?
Gem is worth evaluating when an ATS/CRM and recruiting history are central to the purchase. Metix is worth testing when your team can set the brief and approve outreach, but needs an Agent to carry a role from search to interview booking. Both products automate recruiting tasks; test the work and exact package you would buy.
| Your buying requirement | Route to evaluate | Keep in the budget |
|---|---|---|
| Replace the ATS and manage records, offers and reporting | Gem All-in-One, including its startup offer if eligible | Migration, overlap and the package you will renew |
| Keep the ATS and add sourcing/CRM capabilities | Gem + Your ATS, with confirmed AI seats and add-ons | The ATS bill plus the complete Gem quote |
| Keep hiring decisions and approval; delegate search through booking | A Metix Agent trial on one approved role | Metix capacity, retained systems and your review time |
Metix is relevant when your team can define the role and make hiring decisions but wants an Agent to carry the workflow from search through interview booking. Starter costs $99 monthly or $1,068 billed yearly, with one AI Agent and 5,000 monthly Credits. Twelve unchanged monthly charges total $1,188. Compare that commitment with the Gem package you need, including any ATS you retain. Metix pricing and plan scope.
Outside an active Agent workflow, email unlocks cost 10 Credits and phone-number unlocks cost 20 Credits per candidate. A Deep Search list costs 100 Credits; an additional Agent above the included allowance costs 3,000 Credits. Work inside an active Agent uses 0 Credits. The Credit consumption terms distinguish email and phone, while the pricing page uses a more general contact-unlock description. Credits are not equivalent to Gem seats or a guaranteed number of suitable candidates.
On Metix self-serve plans, your team supplies the brief, reviews candidates and approves outreach. Metix staff do not review the shortlist. Staff-run Delivery is a separate quoted service. Our Metix AI vs Gem comparison covers the broader workflow choice.
Take these questions to the quote
- Which FTE band applies now, and what happens if headcount changes during the term?
- Which package, Standard seats, AI-Powered seats and hiring-manager access are included?
- What are the sourcing, email-finding, sending and AI usage limits? Unlimited email-finding does not establish unlimited sending or every AI allowance.
- Which scheduling, analytics, fraud-detection and integration items cost extra?
- When does the free period end, what starts the paid term, and what cash is due on each invoice?
- What are the discount expiry, renewal, cancellation, data-export and migration terms?
Evaluate Metix on the role you need to fill
Bring one approved job brief: title, location and work arrangement, must-have evidence, exclusions, and the person responsible for candidate review and outreach approval. Use the same requirements when evaluating Gem. A Metix subscription complements retained systems; it does not replace a full ATS.
- Create an account and set up one AI Agent for that role during the 14-day trial.
- Review the first matches against the brief. Note missing evidence, unsuitable matches and minutes spent reviewing; adjust the brief before outreach if needed.
- Approve outreach when the candidates and message meet your standard. Mira runs the approved workflow, including reply follow-up and interview booking.
- Before the trial ends, compare candidate fit, interested replies, booked interviews and your team's work. Continue only if the workflow and the paid plan's capacity fit the role.
The trial includes one AI Agent and 500 Credits, with no credit card required. A booked interview is a separate result from an attended interview or a hire.
Need Metix staff to run the search from day one? Discuss a separately quoted Delivery search. The self-serve subscription does not include staff reviewing your shortlist.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Gem cost in 2026?
The main in-house packages use custom pricing based on company FTE count. The Startup Program widget, checked October 16, displays monthly rates of 300/400/500/700/900 USD for its five company-size bands, and yearly monthly equivalents of 130/180/225/315/405 USD. Eligibility, offer duration and invoice terms require confirmation. These are not prices per recruiter.
Is Gem free for startups?
Gem advertises All-in-One free for six months for companies under 30 employees, then 50% off on a paid plan. Confirm eligibility, the exact 30-employee boundary, discount duration and paid-contract start. Do not halve a displayed promotional price again or assume six free months makes an annual invoice half the full amount.
Is Gem priced by seats or company headcount?
The main pricing page says company FTE count determines custom pricing, while Standard and AI-Powered seats have different capabilities. Ask for the actual seat mix and any cost difference in your quote. A published company-size rate should not be multiplied by recruiter seats without vendor confirmation.
Does the crossed-out Gem startup price show my renewal rate?
It is a displayed reference, not a verified renewal commitment. Ask for the post-offer amount, headcount-change rules, invoice dates and renewal term in writing. The quote worksheet separates cash due from the service months those invoices cover.
Can Metix replace Gem All-in-One?
A Metix self-serve subscription is an Agent recruiting workflow, not a full ATS replacement. Gem is relevant for an ATS/CRM and connected team workflows. Consider Metix when your team can own hiring decisions and approved outreach but wants the workflow carried through interview booking. Keep retained ATS costs in the budget.
